Liminal
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Liminal is the culmination of my experimentation during my semester at university. My chosen path of inquiry revolved around expressing the feelings of ‘nostalgia’ and exploring how that can be represented through gameplay mechanics.
In Liminal, the premise is that you, the player, are moving out of home for the first time, leaving your childhood behind, preparing to enter the next stage of your life. The landscape is a fragmented abstract representation of my childhood home, littered with objects of sentimental value which float about. The most important amongst them all, is my first ever teddy, Jason.

*Note* The MAC version is currently the old version of the game. It still runs, however it's missing some extra models from the PC version.
If the mac app wont open (“Liminal” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.) It works for me if I try and open it a second time by right clicking, selecting “open”, and then pressing “open” again when the pop-up appears :)

just finished playing this and even though it was short the nostalgia was so strong. I also had a soft toy growing up and although I never experienced moving houses, the various items in the game are all items I have had before as a kid. and it made me think of my childhood for a bit and the carefreeness of it associated with play time. love the choice of colors in the game especially the orange hue. I also enjoyed the platforming a bit even though it took me a while to get used to. anyways great job!!!
Thank you so much!! I'm really glad it was able to connect to your own experiences in some way :')
I appreciate the feedback too. Hopefully I'll keep working on the idea and create a version with smoother platforming in the future!
That was honestly a trip & a half. Really made me think about how it felt to leave my childhood home.
If I had to critique it, the collision on the platforming parts needs work as I fell through what should've been a safe landing multiple times. I also feel like the game could be expanded to cover a different room with distinctly different memories of sounds in each section, moving through the whole house to really say goodbye to everything.
Thank you so much! And I really appreciate the feedback, I'm hoping to kind of take this as a proof on concept and add some more substance to it in future so I agree with your comments and will take that on board!
