Cyberpedia [2024]
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Cyberpedia is a fictional CD-Rom game released in the 90's, in which kids could boot it up on their home computer, and through the power of the internet, the game would generate a museum full of exhibits for you to explore and learn all about. It's the information superhighway all in one place!
You're booting this game up over 30 years later though... and the state of the internet is a lot different to how it was back then. As you go through the game you'll find that links go missing, information gets lost, and a certain, 'generative', trend has been spreading like a plague across the game.
While you explore Cyberpedia, you and your helpful museum assistant, Bookworth, can help sort out these issues! as best as you can at least...
This is a prototype I've developed over a couple months for my university course. I'd love to develop the concept further into a full release in the future!
Made using Chris Burton's Adventure Creator toolkit.

Sorry the game is a bit large for what it is! I've used lots of high poly museum scans lol. Compressed them best I could! Should be able to download the executable and run Cyberpedia :) For the Mac Build I'd recommend running through the Itch app since I haven't sorted the permissions on this build just yet.

How DARE you make me feel so attached to a lil' book guy who just wants to help people learn ;w;
You absolutely nailed the vibes of a 90s CD-ROM game, it felt like discovering an edutainment game I'd never heard of from back then! The main mechanic also has some great potential for tricky puzzlin' later, so that intriuges me...
Saw in another comment below that you're making a full Cyberpedia game, so count me in for more (and give Bookworth a hug for me)!
Thank you so much!! Using old software has been my fave part of making the game so far, and I'll pass that on to Bookworth :3
I am terribly sad now, and demand you make a full game for me to buy so I can help Book be happy again.
I'm on it!! #justiceforbookworth
This is so cute! You absolutely nailed the style of the time and this was so nostalgic and comfy. I look forward to the full version!
Looking at and recreating 90s CGI art has been my favourite part, thank you so much for the kind words!
Just played this last night, it was great! You really captured the old computer games vibes. Id love if you could look at the item in the museum while the info about it is pulled up, so the two can be directly compared without closing the book. Especially if it is going to get more complicated as the game goes on. I loved this and will be keeping an eye out for more!
I really appreciate it, thank you for playing and for taking the time to give some feedback!!
I am so interested in a full version of this game, so I really hope you do flesh it out!!
Thank you so much! Can confirm I'm working on a full Cyberpedia game this year :)
Yess, I'm so happy to hear it! I'll keep my eyes peeled for an update :]
You have made me feel bad for a little mustachioed book who did nothing wrong.
He's just doing his best!
